One-week intensive writing workshop held at the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics in Olympic Valley, California. Application-only program limited to 86 writers featuring morning writing practice, guided feedback sessions, and community learning.
The Poetry Program
The Poetry Program at the Community of Writers is a 6-day summer workshop where poets gather to write new poems, break through old habits, and try new things. Led by Director Brenda Hillman and staff poets Kazim Ali, Ama Codjoe, Carmen Gimnez, Brian Teare, and Matthew Zapruder, participants will engage in morning workshops, late afternoon conversations about craft, and individual conferences. The program takes place in Olympic Valley, CA, near Lake Tahoe, and includes nature walks, a benefit poetry reading, and a softball game. Tuition is $1750 and includes six evening meals, with financial aid available. Participants can expect to feel free to try anything and write something stronger and truer than before.
The Writers Annex
The Writers Annex is a 7-day writing workshop where serious writers explore the art and craft of writing, as well as the business of publishing. Led by experienced staff writer-teachers and editors, participants engage in daily morning workshops, craft lectures, and panel conversations. The workshop focuses on fiction, nonfiction, and memoir, with opportunities for individual conferences, special classes, and nature walks. Set in Olympic Valley, California, the workshop offers a unique blend of writing instruction, community building, and natural beauty. Participants can expect to refine their writing skills, gain insight into the publishing industry, and connect with fellow writers.
